Overview

Lakehead University's Faculty of Education prepares prospective teachers for a dynamic and rewarding career through unique and innovative programming. By emphasizing critical thinking skills and collaborative learning, the university gives students the flexibility to explore the teaching methods, concepts and values that are meaningful to them. The program emphasizes practical, experiential learning to ensure students are fully prepared to enter into the workforce post-graduation. Lakehead University's programs are continually adapted to encompass a variety of educational settings and training opportunities in two divisions: Primary-Junior (P/J): JK – Grade 6 Intermediate-Senior (I/S): Grades 7-12 The Concurrent Education program allows students to take courses in both the Faculty of Education and the faculty offering their academic major before taking two years exclusively with the Faculty of Education; five-year program. While the pursuit of knowledge has evolved into specialized disciplines, philosophy continues to address the larger, fundamental questions. Students will learn about the intellectual foundations of society, but they will also develop critical thinking and problem solving skills that will enable them to re-examine society with an inquisitive mind and a discerning lens. Students will explore fundamental philosophical concepts, from Ancient Greek to the modern era, in order to understand contemporary thinking about ethics and justice in context. Lakehead University’s programs emphasize reasoning skills, oral debate, and writing proficiency with the balance of coursework dedicated to philosophical topics such as: Gender Popular Culture Paranormal Love Biomedical Ethics Existentialism Environmental
