Overview

The global challenges people face today call for solutions that expand beyond the confines of a single discipline. Students will take courses from a myriad of areas, such as history, anthropology, sociology, political science, economics, and philosophy, to gain a rich knowledge of global issues. They will learn how to function effectively in a globalized world by acquiring language competency and cultural humility. Students will experience studying abroad as part of fulfilling their International Studies major requirements. In International Studies at Albion College, the world becomes students' classroom. Through multidisciplinary academic training and study-abroad experiences, as an International Studies major they will acquire the knowledge and the ability to thrive in diverse cultural settings. Regardless of their future career plans, these qualifications will make them attractive to prospective employers and set them apart from the crowd. As an International Studies Major, students will acquire multi-disciplinary analytic skills from three core courses on international issues. They will also develop an area of expertise, whether in a particular region of the world or in a selected transnational issue. Students will demonstrate proficiency in a foreign language and study abroad for at least a semester in one of the many off-campus programs available to Albion College students. Finally, they will cap off their senior year with a seminar that will help them integrate their experiences abroad through a semester-long research project.

OPT and STEM OPT eligibility depend on maintaining F-1 status and on the program. A program counts as STEM only when its CIP code is on the official STEM list — not because its name sounds technical.
