Overview

The LLM Legal Practice is a comprehensive master’s programme designed to develop both the advanced legal knowledge and practical skills required to prepare for the Solicitors Qualifying Examination (SQE) and to support progression into professional legal practice. The course is delivered through a combination of expert-led teaching, interactive workshops, and practice-based assessments. It provides thorough coverage of the core legal subjects assessed in SQE1, alongside the development of practical competencies aligned with SQE2. Students engage with the realities of contemporary legal practice, building both legal expertise and transferable skills through applied learning in a variety of professional contexts. Opportunities are provided for real-world experience, including participation in a Law Clinic, placements with partner organisations, or relevant independent legal work experience. These experiences support the application of theoretical knowledge in practical settings. Upon completion, graduates are prepared for the SQE while also gaining an LLM qualification, enhancing their professional profile and career prospects within the legal sector. Students are encouraged to participate in extracurricular activities to further develop their skills, including involvement in student-led societies such as the Mooting Society. In addition, the programme benefits from strong links with the wider legal community, including connections with the Birmingham Law Society, the largest regional law society in the UK, offering further opportunities for professional engagement.
