Overview

The Computing and Information Technology (Top-Up) degree is designed to develop the strategic, analytical, and technical skills required to respond to the evolving demands of modern businesses and digital infrastructure. This one-year programme prepares students to design, develop, operate, and maintain systems while addressing global challenges, organisational needs, and societal considerations through innovative and sustainable solutions. The course provides a broad understanding of computing and information technology, with a focus on areas such as information and network security. Students have access to a wide range of technologies, resources, and industry-standard tools, alongside opportunities to gain professional certifications from organisations such as Cisco, Juniper, and the Linux Professional Institute. Teaching is delivered through a combination of lectures, seminars, and practical and independent learning activities, encouraging students to develop both subject knowledge and the ability to manage their own learning. Supported by a range of academic resources, including online materials, discussion forums, and specialist literature, students build a critical understanding of the discipline while developing the professional and transferable skills needed to adapt, innovate, and lead within the IT industry.
