Overview

This Psychology and Criminology degree offers an integrated approach to understanding human behaviour and crime, combining perspectives from both disciplines to explore real-world issues. The programme encourages the use of scientific reasoning to analyse behaviour, while developing key transferable skills such as communication, teamwork, and problem-solving. Students examine how psychological theories and criminological concepts contribute to understanding crime and criminal behaviour, creating a versatile qualification that supports a range of career pathways in psychology, criminology, and related fields. The course includes opportunities to engage in learning beyond the classroom, such as field trips to relevant settings including museums and prisons, as well as guest lectures from professionals working across both disciplines. These experiences provide valuable insight into potential career options and industry practice. Throughout the programme, students typically study a combination of psychology and criminology modules each semester, ensuring a balanced and comprehensive understanding of both subject areas. An optional professional placement year is available between the second and third years of study, offering valuable experience in a relevant professional environment. Students are responsible for securing their placement, supported by the university’s careers services and employer networks. Those who successfully obtain a placement can transfer to the placement version of the course. The degree equips graduates with the knowledge, practical skills, and critical understanding needed to pursue a wide range of career or further study opportunities.
