Overview

The Direct Master’s Accelerator Program is a one-semester program designed specifically for international students with an advanced level of English language proficiency, but who also want the academic, cultural, and professional support to thrive in their graduate program at Auburn. Students will earn a semester’s worth of credits toward their graduate degree, as well as benefit from additional professional and research courses tailored to their needs as international students. The Master of Science in Data Science and Engineering program prepares students to pursue careers in data science and engineering, where valuable insights are derived from massive amounts of raw data. The high‐quality curriculum offers an excellent balance between theory and application, equipping students with foundational skills and state‐of‐the‐art technologies related to the next generation of big data applications. This program blends graduate‐level courses in core topics like data mining, machine learning, and statistical learning. The program also offers a wide variety of electives in addition to a required capstone experience, in which students apply their knowledge and skills to a real‐world application scenario. There are two formal options in the program: the data engineering option, administered by the Department of Computer Science and Software Engineering, and the data science option, managed by the Department of Mathematics and Statistics.

OPT and STEM OPT eligibility depend on maintaining F-1 status and on the program. A program counts as STEM only when its CIP code is on the official STEM list — not because its name sounds technical.
