Overview

Bachelor of Fine Arts in music theatre offers practical, pre-professional skills in acting, dancing, and singing for students aspiring to be a professional actor or musical theatre artist. Music theatre students receive private voice lessons, study music music theory and skills, and learn piano, speech, music theatre acting, ballet, jazz, and tap. The program combines a liberal arts education with applied skills in performance that will serve students seeking graduate school placement or professional employment. Auburn University Theatre is housed in Telfair B. Peet University Theatre, which includes two fully equipped performance spaces; three dynamic performance studios serving classes in acting, dance, voice, directing, and movement; and fully equipped costume and scenic studios. The newly renovated main stage features a flexible proscenium house seating along with state-of-the-art lighting and sound equipment. A new black box studio theatre is equipped with the first wire tension lighting grid at a university theatre in Alabama and a larger dance studio. Theatre students enjoy opportunities to work with national and international guest artists and travel nationally and internationally to attend workshops and exhibit their work. Auburn theatre graduates think critically, creatively, and collaboratively and carry their knowledge from rehearsal spaces and classroom to stages, campuses, and communities worldwide.

OPT and STEM OPT eligibility depend on maintaining F-1 status and on the program. A program counts as STEM only when its CIP code is on the official STEM list — not because its name sounds technical.
