Overview

Program Description This program consists of a pathway program offered by StudyGroup at the International Study Centre at the University of Sussex followed by entry into a university program offered at the University of Sussex. In the International Year One programme, you will study courses related to your intended field of study alongside English to develop and enhance your skills as a student. Advancement into your intended program depends upon the successful completion of the pathway program. International Year One in International Relations and International Development is the first step in your journey to a range of international relations and international development degrees at the University of Sussex. During your studies, you will explore subjects such as colonialism, international development, global affairs, international relations and the modern international system. How is humanity organised at the world level, and where does power really lie? When and why did the modern global international system come into being? What are the key ideas people have used to try and understand big international issues such as war and peace, and wealth and poverty? And how can we use these ideas to address the urgent challenges – climate change, human rights, terrorism and international inequality – facing the world today? At Sussex, we pioneer new critical approaches to these questions. Because we are one of the largest dedicated International Relations departments in the world, we have a wide range of expertise. And that gives you plenty of choice in how you shape your Bachelor of Arts in International Relations degree.
