Overview

Given the complexity and budgetary constraints of modern healthcare, there is a clear need to provide modern knowledge-driven infrastructure to support the healthcare sector. This programme will provide healthcare professionals with the opportunity to develop their understanding of the field of ICT and its application to improving healthcare. For example wearable devices and apps that monitor exercise, sleep patterns, etc., are becoming increasingly common. They help people monitor and adjust their lifestyle choices. The data gathered also provides medical professionals with early warnings and often life-saving information. This is just one of many used for digital healthcare technologies in both practise and research. Healthcare Innovation and Technology (or Health Informatics) sits at the intersection of information science, computer science, and health care. This field deals with a wide range of tools required for the acquisition, storage, retrieval, and use of information in healthcare. Graduates of this MSc programme will be qualified to work in hospital and healthcare systems, health informatics companies, medical research organisations, medical technology companies and private and public health organisations.
