Overview

The M.A. in Education program empowers educators who hold a credential in general education classrooms—from preschool through higher education—to enrich their careers with the knowledge and skills needed to become instructional and curriculum leaders. The program’s convenience and flexibility allow students to accommodate their work schedules through online course options, as well as to choose between a one- or two-year pathway for program completion, depending on the pace that works best for them. Its electives and options for a thesis or comprehensive exam enable students to customize the curriculum in ways that best align with their goals and interests, allowing them to complete the program according to their individual strengths. An emphasis on leadership skills prepares students for careers as leaders in instruction and curriculum, while also qualifying them to serve as mentors for current and future educators—helping others enhance their teaching abilities at the college level. Through the integration of a multicultural and social justice perspective, along with the latest curriculum and instruction theories and best practices, the program provides a distinctive preparation that positions graduates as exemplary educators ready to promote the learning, living, and growth of students.

OPT and STEM OPT eligibility depend on maintaining F-1 status and on the program. A program counts as STEM only when its CIP code is on the official STEM list — not because its name sounds technical.
