Overview

Individuals with a background in psychology who wish to become counselors specializing in sport and performance psychology may find this program an ideal fit. The Master of Science (MS) in Counseling Psychology at California Baptist University (CBU) aligns with the degree and coursework requirements for licensure as a Marriage and Family Therapist (MFT) in the state of California and, with the addition of optional coursework, as a Professional Clinical Counselor (PCC). The MS in Sport and Performance Psychology meets the Association for Applied Sport Psychology’s (AASP) requirements for certified mental performance consultants (CMPC). The program also provides internship opportunities that allow students to obtain mentored hours and pursue certification as mental performance consultants. Reasons to Earn a Dual Degree in Counseling Psychology, MS, and Sport and Performance Psychology, MS at CBU Qualify for licensure The dual master’s program prepares students for licensure as Marriage and Family Therapists (MFT) and, with optional coursework, as Professional Clinical Counselors (PCC). It also provides the necessary preparation for certification as mental performance consultants through the Association for Applied Sport Psychology (CMPC-AASP). Learn from qualified faculty Students learn from faculty members who are both scholars and practitioners, including several who hold certification as mental performance consultants or are registered mentors through AASP. Discover how faith affects therapy Each course integrates theory and faith, with instruction rooted in a biblical perspective. Faculty members equip students to become strong, compassionate, and ethical counselors committed to improving clients’ quality of life.

OPT and STEM OPT eligibility depend on maintaining F-1 status and on the program. A program counts as STEM only when its CIP code is on the official STEM list — not because its name sounds technical.
