Overview

This degree is designed for students with a B.A., B.Sc., B.Mus. B.P.E.S. or equivalent degree who wish to teach. The program offers three different routes: Early Years(K-4), Middle Years(5-8), and Senior Years (9-12). This program is designed for students who have completed a first degree prior to entering the Faculty of Education. The program is tightly structured, and students are advised that the sequencing in the three routes (Early Years, Middle Years, and Senior Years) must be strictly followed. Coursework is set to prepare students for their field experiences. Students taking this program must choose the Early Years, Middle or Senior Years route at time of application. NOTE: International students are welcome to apply to the Bachelor of Education programs provided they meet admission requirements found in the current Undergraduate Course Calendar. Teacher certification is a separate issue. Completion of a B. Ed. degree does not automatically lead to certification in Manitoba; students must be a Canadian citizen, a permanent resident, or hold a valid work visa to be certified to teach in Manitoba. For more information on Manitoba Teaching Certification, please contact the Professional Certification Unit of Manitoba Education.

About the Institution

Brandon University traces its roots back to the late 19th century and the growth of higher education institutions in the City of Brandon. It began as a liberal arts college that offered some theological training and high school education, in addition to a school of music (since 1906). Brandon College was affiliated with McMaster University and the Baptist Union of Western Canada until 1938, when the Baptist Union decided it could no longer support the college due to financial reasons. In that year, Brandon College became a non-denominational corporation and joined with the University of Manito...
