Overview

Sustainable urban design is the practice of designing cities, towns, and communities in a way that minimizes the impact on the environment and maximizes the social, economic, and cultural benefits for current and future residents. It involves considering the long-term sustainability of a community's physical, economic, and social systems, as well as its environmental impacts in order to create a healthy, livable, and thriving place for all members of the community. Upon graduation of this one-year Ontario College Graduate Certificate, students will be prepared to enter roles in urban planning, urban design, transportation design, or land-use planning in a variety of organizations including government agencies, planning firms, engineering firms, architecture firms, and non-profit organizations.
