Overview

Conestoga College’s Renewable Energy Techniques one-year certificate program prepares high school graduates for careers in the growing fields of renewable energy and sustainable technology. Designed for individuals passionate about clean energy and the green transition, the hands-on program develops the skills required to design, install and maintain solar, wind and other alternative energy systems. The curriculum focuses on four key areas: renewable power generation, energy storage and management, sustainable building practices, and electrical systems and safety. Students gain practical experience with industry-standard tools and emerging technologies, including solar panels, battery storage systems and energy-modelling software. Key areas of study include the installation and maintenance of solar photovoltaic and thermal, wind, hydro and biofuel systems. Students also explore battery storage technologies, including lead-acid and lithium-ion systems. Additional topics include energy modelling, grid integration and system optimisation, as well as green building practices, LEED standards and sustainable construction. The program also covers electrical safety, system diagnostics and grounding fundamentals. Graduates are prepared to contribute to the transition towards a cleaner and more sustainable energy future through entry-level opportunities in renewable energy, energy management and related technical fields.
