Overview

The College Diploma in Occupational Therapist Assistant and Physiotherapist Assistant (S126) is a career-focused program designed to prepare students to support healthcare professionals in delivering rehabilitation and therapeutic services. The course provides students with the knowledge and practical skills needed to assist occupational therapists and physiotherapists in helping patients improve mobility, function, and overall quality of life. Students study key areas such as human anatomy and physiology, therapeutic exercises, rehabilitation techniques, patient care, and the use of assistive devices. The program emphasizes hands-on training, enabling students to develop practical skills in supporting treatment plans, monitoring patient progress, and promoting safe and effective recovery. Throughout the course, students learn to work with diverse patient populations, including individuals recovering from injuries, managing chronic conditions, or experiencing physical or developmental challenges. The program also covers professional ethics, communication skills, and collaborative healthcare practices. Many programs include clinical placements or fieldwork, providing real-world experience in healthcare settings such as hospitals, clinics, and rehabilitation centers. Graduates are prepared for roles as occupational therapist assistants and physiotherapist assistants, working under the supervision of licensed professionals in a variety of healthcare environments.

About the Institution

George Brown Polytechnic opened its doors in 1968, welcoming just over 2,000 students. Believe it or not, they even prepared students for careers at sea through a marine engineering program. Since then, the student population has grown to over 30,000. People come to George Brown from across the Greater Toronto Area, the country and the world to...
