Overview

In the current climate emergency, the need for innovative, data-driven solutions has never been greater. The Environmental Sustainability and Data Science MSc is a multidisciplinary, forward-thinking programme designed to prepare graduates to tackle global challenges by combining the power of technology and data science with the principles of environmental sustainability. The course equips students with the knowledge and skills to address environmental issues through the development and application of new technologies, processes, and solutions inspired by biological systems, alongside data-driven decision-making tools. Students develop expertise in data science techniques, including programming in R and Python, machine learning, and big data analysis, enabling them to interpret and manage complex environmental datasets and design sustainable solutions. Students gain a strong grounding in sustainability frameworks, circular economy principles, policy, and research methods, supported by real-world case studies. Fieldwork and laboratory sessions provide hands-on experience in monitoring and interpreting environmental data, allowing students to assess the impact of human activities on ecosystems and make informed, sustainable decisions. Through collaborative projects, students engage with local communities and industry partners to co-create solutions, gain practical experience, and contribute to meaningful environmental impact. This MSc offers a distinctive opportunity to bridge the gap between data science and environmental sustainability, empowering graduates to become leaders in developing solutions that will shape the future of the planet.
