Overview

The International Stage One is equivalent to the first year of a four-year Scottish undergraduate degree. This program is designed to assist students in developing their academic knowledge and skills within their subject area. Students will also focus on enhancing their English academic literacy in preparation for progressing to their chosen University of Dundee undergraduate degree. Studied over three terms, students will seamlessly transition to Year two of the degree course at the University upon successful completion of the International Stage One. Enhance your French language proficiency while exploring a diverse range of history topics. The curriculum covers social, cultural, and political history from the early modern period to the present day, with a specific focus on the British Isles, Europe, the Americas, Africa, and India. The program places a strong emphasis on practical application of historical knowledge. Students will engage with primary sources from the outset of their studies and analyze various forms of historical evidence, including written and oral materials, maps, visual images, feature films, art, and music. Students will critically examine how sources and media representations influence our interpretations of the past. They will analyze key historical debates, tracing their evolution over time and their impact on our understanding of global events. Additionally, students will learn about the process of historical interpretation and evaluate the role of historians in contemporary public discourse, media, and the heritage sector.
