Overview

The IS1 program is the equivalent of the first year of a four-year Scottish undergraduate degree. This program is designed to help students develop their academic knowledge and skills within their subject area. Participants will also focus on improving their English academic literacy in preparation for continuing onto their chosen undergraduate degree at the University of Dundee. Students will study the IS1 across two or three terms, depending on their entry qualifications. After successful completion, they will progress directly to Year 2 of their chosen undergraduate degree at the University of Dundee. Bachelor of Laws (LLB) - Law (Eng/NI) with Energy Law This course is recognized in common law countries that accept an English qualifying degree. Students begin the course with 120 credits, enabling them to complete their degree in three years. This program can be used as part of an accepted pathway into practice as a solicitor or barrister in England and Wales. More information can be found regarding: The route to qualifying as a solicitor, through a guide to the Solicitors' Qualifying Examination. The process of becoming a barrister, available on the Bar Standards Board website. Student Societies In addition to their studies, students are encouraged to join one of the Law societies: The Dundee University Law Society is one of the largest and most active societies on campus, helping students build their legal networks. The Dundee International Law Society is a student-led organization that arranges seminars, debates, colloquia, and presentations on international law issues and prospects. The Law Review is a publication run by students and reviewed by academics to ensure high academic standards, providing an ideal opportunity for students to gain legal editing and writing experience. The Mooting Society offers training and practice in advocacy. Each year, members participate in national and international competitions, including events at the International Court of Justice in The Hague. The Telders International Law Moot Court Competition provides law students interested in public international law an opportunity to hone their skills in front of leading experts and compete against teams from across Europe.
