Overview

Humber’s English for Academic Purposes (EAP) certificate program is an intensive, full-time pathway designed to prepare students for success in post-secondary education. The program integrates reading, writing, listening, and speaking skills with a strong academic focus. It is specifically designed for non-native English speakers who want to enhance their communication, writing, and critical thinking skills for entry into diploma, degree, or graduate certificate programs, or for professional development. The program consists of: two semesters that run for 14 weeks each. A student’s length of study (either one or two semesters) will be based on their initial placement which is determined by  English proficiency test results. Get placement information.  24 hours per week of in-class and online instruction three hours every week practicing and strengthening skills by completing computer assisted language learning (CALL) activities including additional reading activities, vocabulary, grammar, pronunciation and digital literacy skills, under the guidance of a Teaching English as a Second Language (TESL) certified lab co-ordinator Humber’s experienced faculty bring extensive expertise in ESL/EAP teaching, with strong academic and professional backgrounds. Students benefit from a supportive learning environment that helps them become familiar with Humber’s academic system, campus life, and community, ensuring a smooth transition into further studies. The curriculum is regularly reviewed by an advisory committee to remain aligned with current academic and industry standards. Successful completion of EAP meets the English language requirements for most Humber programs, and students who achieve the required grades may not need to submit IELTS or TOEFL scores.
