Overview

Program Description Build a future by studying in the UK, with a pathway course at Kaplan International College (KIC) London. Situated in the world’s top academic city (QS Best Student Cities 2019), the College will prepare students for a university degree, and for a successful career. Study at one of the most respected international colleges in London, and progress to one of 8 universities, including the University of Bristol. The University of Bristol is a highly ranked Russell Group university with a fantastic reputation. Students will join a global community of students from more than 150 countries, and enjoy life in one of the UK’s most exciting cities. On this course students will learn about the physics that underpins the history, structure and dynamics of Earth systems, and how these relate, for example, to exploration for natural resources and environmental monitoring. They will explore the inaccessible parts of Earth’s interior through a range of geophysical techniques and become immersed in hands-on earth sciences from the start. In years one and two students will gain a firm grounding in earth sciences, physics, mathematics and computing, building your knowledge to inform student choice of third-year options. Recent options have included Global Seismology, Near Surface Geophysics Fieldwork and Physical Volcanology. The third year also includes an independent field and laboratory project. Bristol has a programme of student-run projects, informal seminars and social events. The close links with industry ensure that the skills students gain during their studies are valued by employers; recent partners have included TerraDat, Chevron, Reykjavik Energy, Atkins and EDF. The course includes over 35 days of fieldwork in the UK and overseas, the cost of which is included in the tuition fee. All Bristol geophysics degrees are accredited by the Geological Society of London and transfer between them is possible.
