Midwestern State University (MSU Texas) offers a Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics. The mission of MSU Texas' Department of Mathematics is to promote student understanding of mathematics. The program provides opportunities for its majors to study mathematics both in breadth and depth. Graduates of the program are prepared for entry into graduate school or mathematics-related careers including the teaching profession. The program also serves the university by providing a broad spectrum of introductory level courses so that students in all majors can fulfill the mathematics portion of a quality liberal arts curriculum. The Mathematics Program at MSU Texas offers several different degree options: BA in Mathematics Requires 36 hours of Mathematics (beginning with Calculus I) and 7 credits of Computer Science, as well as a minor of at least 18 semester hours of which at least six must be advanced. BS in Mathematics The BS in Mathematics includes all the requirements for the BA as well as at least four laboratory science courses (two courses in each of two different laboratory sciences). Opportunities in Mathematics: Students who choose mathematics as their major will find an enthusiastic mathematics faculty, small classes, personal attention, and a choice of career paths. They will have many opportunities to get involved in program activities. There is an active Math Club, and a local chapter of Pi Mu Epsilon (a mathematics honor society). There are available positions for students to work as paper graders and math tutors. Mathematics graduates have diverse opportunities, since they have acquired the problem solving, creativity, and critical thinking that work well in many different careers. Upon graduation mathematics majors can work in diverse fields including teaching, business (accountant, actuary, analytics, market research, investment management), research (mathematician, statistician, numerical analysis) or may go on to graduate study.
