Overview

Develop linguistic proficiencies in one of the world's most widely spoken languages while learning about the rich and diverse cultures of Latin America, Spain and the Hispanic communities in the United States. Marquette has two related majors to choose from — Spanish language and literature, and Spanish for the professions — plus a concentration in introductory Spanish for health care. Depending on which path students choose, they'll master language acquisition skills such as speaking, understanding, reading and writing, and they'll immerse themselves in the culture of the Spanish-speaking world. Students will also connect to the global community and perfect their Spanish skills in a dual-immersion language exchange: face-to-face online with native speakers in Mexico, South America and Europe. And get involved in Milwaukee's Hispanic community through service learning.

OPT and STEM OPT eligibility depend on maintaining F-1 status and on the program. A program counts as STEM only when its CIP code is on the official STEM list — not because its name sounds technical.

Marquette offers a well-rounded, top-ranked education. With 11 nationally and internationally recognized colleges and schools, Marquette has plenty to brag about. Why Marquette University? History: Marquette was founded in the rich tradition of the Society of Jesus, a Catholic religious order established in 1540 by St. Ignatius of Loyola. The university is named after Rev. Jacques Marquette, S.J. (1637-75), a French missionary and ex...
