Overview

Program Description Nutrition and health is more relevant to our nation and world today than ever and pursuing a nutrition major can lead to exciting careers in health and healthcare. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics Occupational Outlook Handbook, career opportunities for dietitians and nutritionists are growing much faster than average. Students in the nutrition major at the University of Tennessee are able to pursue one of two concentrations: the dietetics concentration or the basic science concentration. Both nutrition-dietetics and basic science concentrations include a foundation in the basic sciences and introductory nutrition coursework which is built upon through advanced coursework in nutrient metabolism, nutrition assessment, nutrition in disease prevention and treatment, community nutrition, and interpretation of nutrition research literature.
