Overview

Understanding chemistry allows students to examine today's changing world - and gives them the power to shape it. Whether students aspire to aid crime scene investigators in deciphering evidence or champion the cause of environmental conservation, a solid foundation in chemistry opens doors to diverse opportunities. At Saint Mary’s University of Minnesota, its dedicated faculty is committed to facilitating a journey of discovery through education. On the campus in Winona, students will be immersed in a comprehensive learning experience, interweaving research, laboratory work, fundamental chemical principles, and real-world encounters. From their first year, students will engage with cutting-edge instrumentation, including the nuclear magnetic resonance spectrometer, microwave plasma atomic emission spectrometer, and gas chromatograph with a mass spectrometer. Students unearth the realms of general, organic, and physical chemistry, equipping themselves for careers spanning research, healthcare, forensics, and environmental science. Chemistry also serves as an ideal foundation for pre-professional pathways like medicine, dentistry, veterinary science, and pharmacy. Receive personalized, one-on-one mentorship and advising; work closely with a professor for their Senior Research project. This STEM program, recognized by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, focuses on science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM). International students may be eligible for Optional Practical Training (OPT)
