Overview

Sacred Heart University is adding an innovation management concentration to its master’s in business administration (MBA) program. The concentration is focused on the application of technology in business rather than teaching technology as a separate function. As economy of nowadays continues to go through digital transformation, every aspect of marketing, supply chain, finance and accounting is impacted by the ability to seamlessly transform the customer experience on a daily basis through technology. Graduates enrolled in this course of study will take three innovation-based courses: Technology-based business solutions and innovation will focus on the intersection of information technology and business. Students will develop a basic understanding of modern technologies such as cloud computing, blockchain, and artificial intelligence with an emphasis on how businesses leverage these technologies to create new customer experiences, improve operational efficiencies and develop new business models. Applied innovation management focuses on the innovation life cycle and will use case studies from practitioners in the field. Commercializing technical innovations examines the branding, promotional, sales and marketing challenges that firms introducing an innovative technology must recognize and address to avoid presenting something that does not meet commercial expectations. The courses will be taught by seasoned professionals with decades of business experience at some of the largest corporations in the world. These instructors are business executives who developed and managed major technological solutions to business problems and will be able to share their insights with students.

OPT and STEM OPT eligibility depend on maintaining F-1 status and on the program. A program counts as STEM only when its CIP code is on the official STEM list — not because its name sounds technical.
