Overview

Graphic designers combine art and technology to create visual material for businesses, organizations, non-profits, arts and entertainment and more. Not only do students at Southwestern College learn to master industry software, like the Adobe Design Suite, they work on real-world projects and leave with a portfolio ready for the job interview. Designed for the art student desiring to enter the field of graphic communication and intended for students who plan to transfer to a university or seek employment after completion of coursework at Southwestern College. Employment is possible at advertising agencies, design studios, printers, typesetters, sign companies, newspapers, corporate art departments, government agencies, television studios, and publishers. Self-employment as a freelance artist is also an option. In all cases, internships should be part of the preparation for employment.

OPT and STEM OPT eligibility depend on maintaining F-1 status and on the program. A program counts as STEM only when its CIP code is on the official STEM list — not because its name sounds technical.
