Overview

The bachelor's degree in respiratory therapy degree is designed for students interested in working with individuals suffering from impaired lung and heart function. Students will learn to exam, diagnose, and create a treatment plan to improve patients' lives. The Bachelor of Science in Respiratory Therapy degree is in partnership with the Cape Girardeau Career & Technology Center. Students will complete all general education and health-focused coursework at Southeast Missouri State University in the first two years of the program and the final two years completing respiratory therapy coursework at the Career & Technology Center. This program is accredited through the Commission on Accreditation for Respiratory Care (CoARC). Students gain hands-on experience and knowledge required to take on leadership roles in respiratory care in hospitals, clinics, and home healthcare settings and interact with dedicated faculty mentors in a small class environment. Also, students will learn to diagnose and create a treatment plan for those struggling with respiratory issues. This is a cooperative program with the Cape Girardeau Career and Technology Center (CTC). The time it takes to earn a degree will vary based on several factors such as dual enrollment, remediation, and summer enrollment. Students will meet with an academic advisor each semester and use Degree Works to monitor their individual progress.

OPT and STEM OPT eligibility depend on maintaining F-1 status and on the program. A program counts as STEM only when its CIP code is on the official STEM list — not because its name sounds technical.
