Overview

The International Foundation Year in Health and Life Sciences provides international students with a structured pathway towards the BSc (Hons) Paramedic Science degree. The programme is designed to build foundational knowledge in health and life sciences while preparing students for undergraduate study in paramedic science. Students develop essential academic skills, including research, academic writing, communication, critical thinking, problem-solving and independent learning. The programme also introduces students to the UK higher education environment, including university teaching, learning and assessment methods. Through structured academic support, students can build confidence and develop the skills needed for progression to professional healthcare education. Upon successfully completing the foundation stage and meeting the required progression criteria, students can progress to the BSc (Hons) Paramedic Science degree. The degree provides students with opportunities to develop knowledge and professional skills relevant to emergency healthcare, patient assessment, clinical decision-making and pre-hospital care. Students explore approaches to responding to medical emergencies, supporting patients and delivering safe, effective and compassionate care in urgent situations. The programme supports preparation for a professional career in paramedic science and emergency healthcare services.
