Overview

The course equips students with in-demand skills, including data analysis, machine learning, database management, ethics, data privacy, critical thinking, and problem solving—all essential for success in a global market. Students gain a comprehensive understanding of technical, analytical, and business skills, preparing them for careers in data-driven decision-making roles. They are encouraged to question and challenge established approaches through creative study, exploring both theoretical and practical methods at the forefront of business intelligence and analytics. Through this process, students develop a more specialised understanding of decision-making, supported by strong research and communication skills. Real-world experience is recognised as essential for standing out in today’s competitive job market. The Advanced Practice module provides students with the opportunity to apply their academic knowledge in a practical setting, enhancing both employability and professional skills. Typically undertaken over one semester, the module prepares students for practice-based opportunities aligned with their career aspirations. Students receive tailored support and guidance to apply for a range of advanced practice experiences, including research or project-based opportunities on campus or delivered virtually, employer-led work-based experiences, and internships with external organisations to gain offsite industry exposure. Through this module, students engage in an advanced practice opportunity that complements their existing skills and future goals. Assessment is based on a reflective evaluation, equivalent to 3,000 words, and is marked on a pass/fail basis. While the module does not contribute to the overall degree classification, it provides valuable hands-on experience that supports students in preparing for their future careers.
