Overview

The BSc (Hons) in Applied Sports Science with Strength and Conditioning prepares students to work with children, youths, and adults across various sporting environments, with a strong focus on the applied aspects of exercise science. The programme combines theory and practical classes, emphasising the delivery of knowledge through hands-on coaching sessions. Over the four-year course, students study components of fitness, principles of training, sports nutrition, sports psychology, biomechanical analysis, and the science of sport. Specialisation in strength and conditioning includes modules such as resistance training, weightlifting, injury prevention, and periodisation, enabling students to take the ITEC gym instruction qualification exam. The honours degree integrates applied learning, with modules designed to develop the coaching competencies necessary to enhance athlete performance in a chosen sport. Strength and conditioning coaches trained through this programme are equipped to work across the full lifecycle, including children, youths, adults, and older adults. The course aims to provide students with the knowledge and skills to design and implement conditioning programmes that support coaches and athletes, while also preparing graduates to be industry-ready in the field of exercise science.
