The programme focuses on essential aspects of software development while integrating games programming, enabling graduates to design and develop games for platforms including mobile, console, PC, and online, using multiple programming languages and game engines. The course blends creativity with technology, teaching coding in C++ and Java, artificial intelligence, cross-platform development, and game engine frameworks. Students gain expertise in software design, agile methodologies, level design, and enterprise coding, preparing them for roles such as game developer, software engineer, AI programmer, or enterprise software developer. The curriculum encourages the creation, release, and promotion of original games, fostering both technical proficiency and creative innovation. The programme provides strong industry engagement through participation in Games Fleadh, Ireland’s largest game development festival, hosted at the TUS Thurles Digital Games Hub. Students design and develop games to be judged by industry experts, building a professional portfolio and gaining exposure to leading companies. Graduates are highly sought after by multinational and indigenous industry leaders, including Microsoft, Amazon, General Motors, and Jaguar Land Rover. A paid six-month work placement in the third year offers real-world experience, complementing the practical and theoretical components of the degree. The programme also provides opportunities for recognition and awards at industry events such as Games Fleadh, enhancing employability and professional visibility in the games and software sectors.
