Overview

The BSc (Hons) in Computer Networks and Cyber Security provides learners with the technical expertise required to design, build, and manage secure and efficient computer networks, alongside a strong understanding of how cyber threats operate. The programme develops the capability to defend and manage network infrastructures through the design of security plans, strategies, and technical solutions that protect both physical and virtual servers and network hardware. Learning is strongly hands-on, with practical experience across Windows and Linux operating systems, network services, scripting, databases, ethical hacking, virtual machines, microservices, Cisco technologies, VMware, and cloud platforms such as Amazon AWS and Microsoft Azure. The curriculum builds a solid foundation in technical knowledge, problem solving, and logical thinking, enabling graduates to adapt quickly to workplace environments and technological change, while also supporting progression to further postgraduate study. An industry work placement in Year 3 forms an integral part of the programme and provides valuable real-world experience. Graduates of this programme pursue careers in roles such as network administrator or technician, IT customer support specialist, IT technical support at levels one to three, systems administrator, computer network engineer, network programmer or analyst, and information systems or network manager. Successful graduates are also eligible to progress to Level 9 and Level 10 postgraduate programmes at TUS or other institutions.
