Overview

The BEng (Hons) in Mechanical Engineering is designed to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of Mechanical Engineering. Mechanical engineers contribute to nearly every aspect of daily life, innovating and designing machines ranging from computers and power generators to medical equipment. A qualification in Mechanical Engineering offers graduates diverse career opportunities across a wide range of industries. In Year 3, students undertake a 20-week work placement within an engineering organisation, gaining practical experience in areas such as Computer Aided Design (CAD), engineering processes and maintenance, refrigeration and air conditioning, plant engineering, and instruments and control. The programme emphasises the application of sophisticated computer-based tools and equipment, including CAD, robotics, and computer-controlled manufacturing systems, to enhance the quality and efficiency of machinery production. A practical, hands-on teaching approach equips students with skills directly relevant to the employment market. The programme welcomes applicants with apprenticeships in mechanical trades or individuals from manufacturing backgrounds seeking to upgrade their skills and qualifications. Direct entry into Year 2 is available for suitably qualified candidates with craft qualifications or relevant manufacturing experience. Graduates from TUS Engineering have secured roles in companies such as ARUP, Regeneron, Kirby Group, Jacobs Engineering, Vistakon, Boston Scientific, and ESB. Career positions include product design engineer, mechanical engineer, facilities engineer, design engineer, and building operations supervisor.
