Overview

The Pharmaceutical and Chemical Analysis – MSc is an interdisciplinary postgraduate programme designed to provide industry-informed, specialist knowledge and skills in the application of modern, state-of-the-art analytical techniques focused on pharmaceutical ingredients, products and other chemicals. The programme addresses the needs of the pharmaceutical and chemical sectors, particularly current employment shortages and skills gaps in pharmaceutical and chemical analytics. It is aimed at science graduates and industry-based scientists who wish to further develop advanced analytical expertise in areas such as drug analysis, chemical analysis and toxicology through a targeted multidisciplinary approach, while also addressing the growing importance of environmental sustainability within these industries. Expert training is provided in the use of advanced analytical instrumentation, and graduates gain insight into emerging developments within the multinational pharmaceutical sector in Ireland and across the European Union. Delivery is led by a highly skilled interdisciplinary academic team with expertise spanning pharmaceutical and chemical sciences, pharmacy, pharmacology and toxicology, supported by strong engagement with industry partners throughout the programme. A key objective of the MSc is to develop extensive experimental and laboratory-based analytical skills in modern facilities, equipping graduates for careers as analytical scientists within the pharmaceutical and chemical sectors or for progression to further postgraduate research. Successful completion of the programme enables graduates to demonstrate a high level of laboratory competence and supports career advancement in a dynamic, multinational and industry-oriented field.
