Overview

The BSc (Hons) in Bioveterinary Science focuses on the investigation of life processes and the exploration of relationships between living organisms, encompassing studies that range from molecular and cellular levels to populations and ecosystems. The discipline incorporates a range of specialisms, including biology, biological sciences, life sciences and animal sciences, with an emphasis on specific technologies, interactions and systems such as animal behaviour, biochemistry and biotechnology, as well as the environments inhabited by living organisms, including ecology and environmental biology. The Bioveterinary Science degree programme at TUS was the first of its kind in Ireland and is delivered as a multidisciplinary science programme that supports access to a wide range of career opportunities. The programme is designed to develop bioveterinary scientists who contribute to the promotion of animal and human health and welfare at a national level. Career pathways commonly include roles within pharmaceutical, agricultural and medical research sectors. The programme does not confer eligibility for registration with the Veterinary Council of Ireland as a veterinary surgeon or veterinary nurse and is not intended as a pathway to further study in veterinary medicine or veterinary nursing. Graduates of the programme are well positioned for employment across a variety of sectors, including veterinary diagnostics, pharmaceutical research, veterinary, medical and nutritional sales, and forensic laboratory services. Successful graduates are also eligible to progress to Level 9 and Level 10 postgraduate programmes within TUS or at other higher education institutions.
