Overview

The BEng (Hons) in Automation and Robotics at TUS Midlands is designed to prepare graduates for careers in the rapidly evolving fields of robotics, instrumentation, process control, and industrial automation. The programme equips learners with specialist knowledge and extensive hands-on practical skills, addressing the growing demand for engineers in sectors such as manufacturing, healthcare, and transport. The widespread adoption of robotics and automation has created a shortage of qualified graduates, making expertise in this area highly sought after. TUS Midlands maintains strong partnerships with industry to provide students with exposure to cutting-edge technologies. Software such as RoboDK is used to design and simulate robotic cells, which can then be replicated on industrial robots, providing valuable practical experience. A six-month industrial work placement is embedded in the third year, carrying 25 credits and following prescribed criteria agreed upon with the employer. Placements can be undertaken regionally, nationally, or internationally, allowing students to gain real-world experience in automation and manufacturing roles. Dedicated placement support ensures students are well-prepared to enter the workforce and leverage the university’s strong industrial connections.
