Overview

TAFE NSW's Certificate IV in Design (Graphic Design) focuses on design processes and develops students' existing skills and knowledge so they can build their career in the global design industry. At TAFE NSW, they will study in purpose-built studios, workspaces and galleries, meet other creative students and build their network. The course is for people who want to have a career in graphic design. It provides them with fundamental skills in graphic design with an emphasis on exploration and experimentation of the design process. In this course learners can explore aspects of graphic design discipline which can be extended upon with further study at diploma and advanced diploma levels. TAFE NSW courses are developed in close consultation with the industry so students graduate with the real-world practical skills recruiters are looking for. TAFE NSW's Diploma of Graphic Design strengthens creative and technical design skills and deepens graduates' abilities in visual storytelling. Design thinking and creative problem solving are skills that are in demand in creative and broader industries. The graphic design creative practices and processes implemented in this course help graduates to think outside the square and problem solve on a physical, digital and conceptual level. Students learn how to develop and extend their design skills and practice, research visual communication history and theory, develop graphic design practices to meet industry needs and present a body of creative work. Graduates will also sharpen their drawing, illustration and other visual representation skills, produce graphic designs for 2D and 3D applications, produce typographic design solutions, create and manipulate graphics, and design and manipulate complex layouts. TAFE NSW's Advanced Diploma of Graphic Design deepens visual communication skills and enables students to leave their creative mark on the world. Tailor a career to specialise in print media, advertising, corporate branding, digital design or illustration for commercial purposes. Graduates can use their new creative knowledge to build a career as a graphic designer, social media designer or content creator, or take the helm at a design business as a studio manager.
