Overview

TAFE NSW's accredited Diploma of Nursing prepares students to provide expert nursing care across the health sector. Students will learn anatomy and physiology, infection control and medication administration to work in a range of health care settings including acute, aged care, rehabilitation and mental health. TAFE NSW has developed this course in consultation with peak bodies and industry partners. TAFE NSW's extensive network gives students the opportunity to learn in diverse workplaces and to improve their technical and professional nursing skills. A work placement and on-the-job training will give students diploma level nursing skills across a range of nursing disciplines. Numeracy Requirements: All international students will be required to undertake a Numeracy test prior to commencing the Diploma of Nursing. The purpose is to demonstrate sufficient numeracy skills. This is a requirement of the Australian Nursing and Midwifery Accreditation Council (ANMAC). To meet this requirement students will need to complete an assessment and achieve competency of at least Exit Level 3 in Numeracy. How will I do the test? As part of the application process, a TAFE NSW support officer will contact students to arrange to take the test. The test is online access to a computer and the internet is required. Bachelor of Nursing at University of Wollongong: Registered nurses play an important role in the healthcare system and are involved in a range of activities that are designed to provide care of people with acute, chronic and complex health conditions. Registered nurses are integral in the treatment of people, families, communities, and populations. Students will have opportunities to apply theory to practice in modern simulated supported learning environments, prior to undertaking workplace experience. During the course students will attend 21 weeks of workplace experience in hospitals, aged care, and community facilities. This will immerse students in the field of nursing where students will care for people, putting into practice what students have learned in simulated tutorials. Students will evaluate and apply concepts drawn from nursing theory and research to professional practice. Students will also develop an increased awareness of the effects of cultural, social, economic, legal and ethical influences on the development of the nursing profession and knowledge that will enable students to accept responsibility for more complex client management.
