Overview

Inspired by the Catholic Benedictine tradition, St. Scholastica’s Theology and Religious Studies program invites students to explore theology and religion as sources of wisdom and meaning. Students will encounter diverse beliefs and traditions while gaining insights into the most profound questions of human existence. From politics and art to science and war, studying religion opens a gateway to understanding the world. This curriculum will help students sharpen their critical thinking, ethical decision-making, and communication skills as they deepen their understanding of theological and religious topics. Students will also learn to articulate the role of faith, religion, and the Catholic Intellectual Tradition in shaping meaning across personal and public contexts. Along the way, students will learn to examine complex questions through the lenses of human dignity, social justice and religious values.

OPT and STEM OPT eligibility depend on maintaining F-1 status and on the program. A program counts as STEM only when its CIP code is on the official STEM list — not because its name sounds technical.

About the Institution

The College of St. Scholastica, an independent private college, was founded in Duluth in 1912 by a group of pioneering Benedictine Sisters who offered college courses to six young women. Today, more than 4,000 men and women study at the institute each year. Campus buildings include the Science Center, Burns Wellness Commons and the iconic Tower Hall, as well as a library, chapel, 500-seat auditorium, black-box theater, and on-campus dorms, suites and apartments. The Duluth campus also includes the St. Scholastica Monastery, home to the Benedictine Sisters, whose values guide the College today....
