Overview

A Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree prepares students to assume leadership roles within their organization and prepares them to enter graduate programs. The University of Tulsa offers a pre-licensure program for students who want to enter the nursing profession as a registered nurse. The program prepares them for the nursing licensure exam (NCLEX). They benefit from strong community relationships with local healthcare providers, excellent experiential learning activities, and highly personalized learning opportunities to help them make connections with passionate mentors and alumni. Students begin clinical experiences during the spring semester of their sophomore year. This gives them five semesters to develop their clinical skills whereas most programs incorporate four. They can gain experience at a number of area hospitals and community agencies preparing them for employment in a range of health care settings after graduation. The Bachelor of Science in Nursing prepares students for licensure examination and employment in hospital, clinic and community health agencies.

OPT and STEM OPT eligibility depend on maintaining F-1 status and on the program. A program counts as STEM only when its CIP code is on the official STEM list — not because its name sounds technical.

About the Institution

The University of Tulsa (TU) traces its roots to the Presbyterian School for Indian Girls, a small boarding school in Muskogee, Indian Territory, which was founded in 1882. In 1894, the Board of Home Missions of the Presbyterian Church elevated the academy’s status and chartered it as Henry Kendall College, a name that honored the first general secretary of the Home Missions Board. The first classes in the new college were held on Sept. 12, 1894. Today, TU operates as an independent, nondenominational university. A top-rated research institution, TU welcomes students from many different faiths...
