Overview

Finance is the management of real money and real assets in a manner that provides the optimal use of these scarce resources. The world of finance is dynamic, increasingly competitive, complex and global. Finance professionals help track daily operations within an organization, analyze the current financial position, plan for future corporate expenditures and acquisitions and measure and manage risk exposure in an organization. The University of Tulsa’s Finance program prepares students to excel in this exciting arena. The career paths and options in finance are extensive, including corporate finance, banking, investment planning and real estate. The university’s School of Finance and Operations Management offers a finance major with three areas of study: corporate finance, investments and portfolio management. The study of finance at the University of Tulsa involves perfecting students’ technical skills specific to the discipline as well as honing their management interests. The Finance program is designed to educate students in all areas of business—accounting, economics, management, marketing and computer information systems—because the finance profession involves interaction with all these areas. Students can focus in the areas of corporate finance, investments, financial institutions, and risk management.

OPT and STEM OPT eligibility depend on maintaining F-1 status and on the program. A program counts as STEM only when its CIP code is on the official STEM list — not because its name sounds technical.

About the Institution

The University of Tulsa (TU) traces its roots to the Presbyterian School for Indian Girls, a small boarding school in Muskogee, Indian Territory, which was founded in 1882. In 1894, the Board of Home Missions of the Presbyterian Church elevated the academy’s status and chartered it as Henry Kendall College, a name that honored the first general secretary of the Home Missions Board. The first classes in the new college were held on Sept. 12, 1894. Today, TU operates as an independent, nondenominational university. A top-rated research institution, TU welcomes students from many different faiths...
