Overview

The Department of Economics strives to awaken students’ passion for learning with a focus on economics. The program serves students from the Kendall College of Arts and Sciences, the Collins College of Business and the College of Engineering and Natural Sciences. They may earn a B.S., B.A. or B.S.B.A. (Bachelor of Science in Business Administration) degree with a major in economics. Many economics alumni advance to MBA or graduate programs while others attend law school or are hired in the private, public or nonprofit sectors. In addition to basic economics courses, students complete a series of mathematics and statistics classes before customizing their degree plan. All students must complete the University of Tulsa’s core curriculum and their college’s specific course requirements. These basic economics courses include microeconomics and macroeconomics, advanced theory classes, a session in the history of economic thought and a collection of higher level economics electives such as econometrics, game theory, economic policy analysis, health economics, growth theory, environmental and resource economics, monetary economics, economic development and international economics. The program offers students basic economics, mathematics and statistics classes before allowing them to customize their degree plan.

Optional Practical Training (OPT)
Verify before applying

OPT and STEM OPT eligibility depend on maintaining F-1 status and on the program. A program counts as STEM only when its CIP code is on the official STEM list — not because its name sounds technical.

About the Institution

The University of Tulsa (TU) traces its roots to the Presbyterian School for Indian Girls, a small boarding school in Muskogee, Indian Territory, which was founded in 1882. In 1894, the Board of Home Missions of the Presbyterian Church elevated the academy’s status and chartered it as Henry Kendall College, a name that honored the first general secretary of the Home Missions Board. The first classes in the new college were held on Sept. 12, 1894. Today, TU operates as an independent, nondenominational university. A top-rated research institution, TU welcomes students from many different faiths...
