Overview

Approximately 150 million individuals worldwide are fluent in the Russian language. It serves as the official language in four countries and is widely comprehended throughout Eastern Europe. Over the past three decades, there has been an unprecedented level of transnational mobility for Russian speakers. Given its status as the largest country globally, Russia holds significant importance in both cultural and political spheres on a global scale. Consequently, pursuing a joint honors degree in Russian Studies and Social Policy proves to be an ideal choice. This comprehensive program offers intensive language instruction, including a year-long study abroad opportunity in Russia. Through this, students will acquire advanced proficiency in reading, writing, and speaking Russian, as well as translation skills. Furthermore, they will delve into Russian literature and culture, gaining a profound understanding of the country's international political and historical contexts. The curriculum places a particular emphasis on examining social and economic transformations, their underlying causes, and their societal repercussions. Students will gain insight into the policy-making process in the United Kingdom, comprehending how policies are formulated. Additionally, they will explore the influence of international entities such as the European Union and the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD).
