Overview

French is considered to be a major world language, with speakers found in various regions across Europe, Africa, and the Americas. This language serves as a gateway to numerous cultural and artistic movements, offering valuable insights into both the contemporary world and the past. By studying French and History of Art, individuals can gain a deeper understanding of the world around them. The opportunity to develop near-native fluency in this widely-spoken modern language is provided through intensive language study at Edinburgh, complemented by a year spent abroad. During the course, students will delve into various aspects of French culture, including Francophone literature and cinema, as well as its political history, social movements, and philosophical ideas. Moreover, the study of History of Art will expose students to diverse periods and cultures worldwide. Through this program, students will acquire knowledge about the creation of artworks, exploring the motivations behind their production and the intended audience.
