Overview

The MSc in Data Science and Artificial Intelligence, offered jointly by the School of Computer Science and Information Technology and the School of Mathematical Sciences, delivers a comprehensive education in the core principles of this fast-growing field. By integrating advanced modules in computing and statistics, the programme equips students with essential skills in areas such as database management, programming, data summarisation, modelling, visualisation, and interpretation. Through the completion of a research project, students have the opportunity to explore the applied aspects of data science and artificial intelligence, allowing them to deepen their understanding and practical experience within the discipline. The MSc programme is designed to prepare students to manage, analyse, and interpret large, diverse data sources effectively. Graduates of the programme will be equipped to design, evaluate, and apply appropriate data analytics techniques, utilising software tools for data storage, management, and analysis. The curriculum also includes machine learning, along with probabilistic and statistical methods. These skills are essential for organisations that routinely work with large-scale data sets and require advanced analytical capabilities to drive decision-making and innovation.
