Overview

Program Description The Extended Accelerator Program (EAP) is a three-semester program for students seeking an immersive English-learning experience. The program gives students firsthand practical and cultural understanding of the UDayton campus and Dayton area through its contextual curriculum. Upon completion of the program, students progress into the second year of their undergraduate education with a full year’s worth of academic credits. As an Extended Accelerator student at UDayton Global you'll receive: An immersive educational experience with a contextual curriculum bridging language, culture and academics. Live, Learn, Grow is a unique course designed for international students that will deepen your working knowledge of life in the United States and give you a comprehensive understanding of the local community and region. Bolster your academic achievement with English-language instruction, tutoring, academic advising and student support. Benefit from personalized English-language instruction that’s fully contextual—for example, lab-specific English-language instruction alongside your lab-inclusive science course. The University of Dayton offers the Bachelor of Arts in Communication with four concentrations. Learn how these concentrations can help you advance in today's ever-changing world. A minor in one of our concentrations can compliment any degree program. Public Relations In public relations, you'll learn how corporations, organizations, nonprofit groups and individuals manage their public image, control internal and external communication and establish themselves in a community. PR specialists write news releases, conduct press conferences, plan and implement events, write brochures, newsletters and magazines, manage corporate communication and support crisis management. In our program, you'll learn theory and professional skills based on a solid foundation of strong and precise writing strategic planning, message design, ethics and research. Communication Management Trying to manage people in organizations can be a real challenge. Enabling two-way communication to accomplish the organization's goals can be difficult. To complicate matters, many employees in the modern organization are required to work with people that they may never meet - people who are in different zip codes or time zones, or on different continents. That's where communication management comes in. Management requires a keen attention to interpersonal relationships, group decision making, persuasion, cultural differences, clear explanations and especially conflict management. This concentration prepares students to respond to these and other challenges of communication environments in the 21st century. Media Production If you enjoy telling stories, and if the thought of telling stories and sharing other kinds of information across a variety of media platforms sounds exciting to you, then you should consider the media production concentration. This concentration focuses on television and radio broadcasting, audio and video production, and multimedia production. You can gain experience in principles and practical application through production, script writing and carefully designed class activities. Our state-of-the-art high definition video and digital audio production equipment, as well as digital field cameras, editing suites and multimedia labs in our studios, provide you with valuable hands-on experience. You can also build your portfolio by working in our student-run FM radio station and our campus cable TV station, and by covering academic, social and athletic events on campus and in the community. Journalism The field of journalism is more complex and more exciting today than ever before! The news industry is in transition, and the very existence of traditional news outlets is being called into question. Observers suggest that news is heading toward a multiple-platform industry with newspapers, Web news, broadcast television and cable television being rolled together into a new shape. You may be the one who helps determine that shape. Despite the changes, 21st century journalism will continue to require strong writing skills and a solid foundation in the legal, ethical and social issues essential to the professional journalist. You will be exposed to writing, editing, design, research and production experiences with special attention to detail and accuracy, You can gain practical experience by writing for many of UD's campus publications as well as the Flyer News, published twice weekly and operated entirely by students.

OPT and STEM OPT eligibility depend on maintaining F-1 status and on the program. A program counts as STEM only when its CIP code is on the official STEM list — not because its name sounds technical.

About the Institution

Founded in 1850 by the Society of Mary (the Marianists), a group of visionary leaders who knew that consistent change was necessary for constant growth, the University has grown into a top-tier Catholic university. At the University of Dayton, we learn by doing, because doing transforms education. Whether it's breaking ground on campus to do groundbreaking work with GE Aviation, staying ahead of the economic curve by opening an institute in China or increasing our global foothold by reducing our local footprint, we're rolling up our sleeves and taking action to create a better tomorrow.
