Overview

Program Description The Extended Accelerator Program (EAP) is a three-semester program for students seeking an immersive English-learning experience. The program gives students firsthand practical and cultural understanding of the UDayton campus and Dayton area through its contextual curriculum. Upon completion of the program, students progress into the second year of their undergraduate education with a full year’s worth of academic credits. As an Extended Accelerator student at UDayton Global you'll receive: An immersive educational experience with a contextual curriculum bridging language, culture and academics. Live, Learn, Grow is a unique course designed for international students that will deepen your working knowledge of life in the United States and give you a comprehensive understanding of the local community and region. Bolster your academic achievement with English-language instruction, tutoring, academic advising and student support. Benefit from personalized English-language instruction that’s fully contextual—for example, lab-specific English-language instruction alongside your lab-inclusive science course. Through intensive studio experiences, firsthand teaching opportunities and engaging course work, students receive thorough preparation for a teaching career in art. The Bachelor of Fine Arts (B.F.A.) in Art Education provides multi-age licensure (prekindergarten through grade 12) from the Department of Art and Design in the College of Arts and Sciences. The Art Education program empowers pre-service educators to find their voices as artists and educators through studio engagement, intensive coursework, and community based teaching opportunities. As practicing artists, pre-service educators invest in building their portfolio, developing their craft, and clarifying their artistic vision. Coursework provides a solid foundation for teachers through a comprehensive, social justice art education lens. At every stage of their coursework, students in the Art Education program celebrate the Marianist focus on community and service by moving outside the walls of the classroom to engage in experiential learning in local school and community based settings. The College of Arts and Sciences and School of Education and Health Sciences combine resources to develop students’ knowledge and skills. As part of the teacher education training, students learn teaching methodology, safety procedures, organization of materials and curriculum planning. Artistic talents are put use with participation in hands-on teaching experiences during all four years. By graduation, the student will be prepared to teach art in various school settings, and will understand the relationship between visual art and a pluralistic culture in a global society. The University of Dayton is accredited by the National Association of Schools of Art and Design (NASAD).

OPT and STEM OPT eligibility depend on maintaining F-1 status and on the program. A program counts as STEM only when its CIP code is on the official STEM list — not because its name sounds technical.

About the Institution

Founded in 1850 by the Society of Mary (the Marianists), a group of visionary leaders who knew that consistent change was necessary for constant growth, the University has grown into a top-tier Catholic university. At the University of Dayton, we learn by doing, because doing transforms education. Whether it's breaking ground on campus to do groundbreaking work with GE Aviation, staying ahead of the economic curve by opening an institute in China or increasing our global foothold by reducing our local footprint, we're rolling up our sleeves and taking action to create a better tomorrow.
