Overview

Grounded in the learning of University of Cumbria's PGCE Secondary program, this Religious Education pathway allows students to develop the skills to teach in the secondary school setting, creating and leading engaging RE lessons. This unique specialism gives them the opportunity to inspire a curiosity for world religion in the children they teach. Students will learn through a blend of theory and hands-on experience, working within the National Curriculum Framework. They will explore the key concepts and themes of the PGCE curriculum, confidently devising and delivering engaging lessons to children and young people, aged 11-16 years old. Over half the course will be spent working in the classroom on assessed placement, with school-based enrichment activities alongside university-based study. Graduates will take two placements across a variety of schools and settings, building a wealth of experience to help advance their future career. In this course students will: Inspire young people to discover world religion, philosophy and ethics. Benefit from high-quality support from academics and staff on a program designed around them.
