Overview

The Bachelor of Arts in Information Technology at USC Upstate prepares students to manage and analyze data to enhance business operations. The program equips graduates to oversee data systems and business information, lead initiatives in systems networking, analysis, and security, and supervise IT operations and personnel. Students develop expertise in computer technology, information processing, management, business, and communication, becoming skilled decision-makers and problem-solvers ready for diverse roles in information technology. The curriculum includes courses in organizational informatics, social informatics, innovation, project management, cloud services, cybersecurity, programming, database design, and computer networking. Graduates are prepared for careers as business analysts, project managers, information resources managers, tech support specialists, and web content developers. Those holding an associate degree from an accredited health information management program and the RHIT certification (or who pass the registry exam within six months of entry) may enroll in the accredited health information management program. This program, accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Health Informatics and Information Management Education (CAHIIM), requires a separate application, a written sample, and an interview with the program director. Upon completion, graduates are eligible to take the Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) certification exam and are prepared for management careers in health information systems, electronic medical records, and insurance coding.
