Overview

Master of Music Therapy (MMT) is Canada's longest-running graduate music therapy degree, focusing on music psychotherapy, clinical musicianship, and psychotherapeutic techniques through clinical, theoretical, and experiential practices. Offered full-time as a two-year program or a one-year option for Bachelor of Music Therapy holders, it fosters a creative learning environment to enhance clinical musicianship and music therapy skills, emphasizing reflexive practices and clinical work. Students learn to conduct evidence-based and practice-based research. The curriculum provides advanced clinical education and contemporary clinical theories, fostering the development of music therapy knowledge, skills, and attitudes. It helps students understand major clinical theories, philosophies of practice, and current Canadian and international music therapy trends while emphasizing the balance between music and therapy. The MMT is offered full time as a two-year program with a one-year option for individuals who hold a Bachelor of Music Therapy.

About the Institution

For more than a century, Laurier has been known for academic excellence. But we’ve also been dedicated to the philosophy that our students’ success is measured through more than grades – it’s based on the quality of the lives they lead, and those they inspire. Laurier’s two campuses are in Waterloo and Brantford, but we also have a Faculty of Social Work in nearby Kitchener and a weekend MBA program in Toronto. In all, we have 19,000 undergraduate and graduate students. Kitchener-Waterloo, with a population of about 350,000, is small enough to be safe and easy to navigate but large enough to o...
